APPRENTICESHIP PROJECT OVERVIEW

With a vigorous commitment to church planting, our vision is to plant vibrant, evangelistic, and ultimately multi-ethnic churches. Initial efforts will concentrate on reaching Hispanics, based on the many cultural affinities between Brazilians and Hispanics. 

To reach Brazilian and Hispanic communities in the US, the CTK Cross -Cultural Apprenticeship Project recruits, equips and empowers ministry apprentices within the current CTK church network to be local leaders, elders and pastors. Once trained in evangelism, discipleship, preaching and Bible study, some will go on to strengthen existing ministries while others will be encouraged to initiate church planting cells in and around greater Boston.

The CTK Cross-Cultural Apprenticeship Project is graciously funded by PCA's Mission to Church American's Antioch Fund. The Project operates under the supervision of Rev. Leandro Pinheiro, CTK Cambridge Pastor and Project Diretor, and Rev. Pedro Lino, CTK Revitalization Pastor and Project Coordinator,  and in collaboration with CTK’s Church Planting Network.

 

GOAL

The result will be three-fold: expanding the gospel, building the local PCA church, and improving the lives of immigrants and multi-ethnic and cultural people within our communities.

32 men and their families will be recruited for the project, and we pray that at least 4 of these men will go on to formal pastoral and church planting roles.

 

STRATEGY

“The ministry apprentice curriculum involves  practical ministry under the specific guidance, support and supervision of a ministry trainer.”

The training program precedes theological study and will be based within a church or a specialist ministry team. In this context, interns will both test their gifts and receive on-the- job training and receive feedback.

Once we identify potential leaders and build a relationship with them, we present the Apprenticeship Project to them, accompany them through pastoral counseling, and we focus their training on commitment and conviction, several competencies and also character development (see chart). 

 

 

IMPLEMENTATION

Teaching and training is divided into 2 major and distinct areas:

1. THEOLOGICAL THOUGHT
A. CONVICTION
i. Objective: Develop leaders and officers
 - Method: Develop a doctrine of scripture; Teach Presbyterian ecclesiology; Create a church missions strategy

B. COMPETENCE
i. Objective: Develop comprehensive church leadership
 - Method: How to write a Bible Talk; Evangelism and Discipleship; Loving and serving the community
ii. Discipleship Course for Potential Small Group Leaders
 - Objective: Develop small group leaders
 - Method: Train small group leaders on discipleship; Hold small group labs with leaders; Engage in one-on- oneDiscipleship

2. PRACTICAL THEOLOGY
A. CHARACTER – PERSONAL GROWTH
i. We focus on the spiritual life of the pastor and his family, success and failure in the ministry, and Christian leadership
ii. With the oversight of their mentors, the leaders are serving and working in their respective churches and beginning to lead weekly worship services
iii. They are periodically preaching and teaching
